Within the scope of the current project, various corporate documents of the company, including an excerpt from the relevant issue of Turkish Trade Registry Gazette, were translated from Turkish into English.
CHALLENGES
- Trade Registry Gazette issues typically contain rather long and complex sentences written in Turkish, which require translating such sentences and phrases in a more coherent and accurate manner, and often adopting a custom approach for individual sections in each case since there are significant variations in each content.
- Standard titles, names of sections and sub-sections require particular attention to ensure overall consistency of the target text.
- The source text contains a great number of factual information, including proper names, titles, and numbers, etc., which should also be contained in the target text free of any errors since these components are as crucial as the rest of the content for the internal procedures of the company.
- The source text also includes various legal terms, which contain some older versions of Turkish words. Such terms should be translated within the right context and in line with the applicable legal system to make sense in the target language.
- Some terms were abbreviated in the source text which require additional review to provide a full text in the target language for clarification.
SOLUTIONS
- The relevant section of the Trade Registry Gazette was read thoroughly and carefully for pre-translation analysis and reformulated accordingly in the target language by eliminating any inconsistency and ambiguity contained in the source text.
- Standard titles and section headings were consistently used to facilitate easy reference and provide a reader-friendly text.
- Factual information such as proper names, addresses, numbers, etc. is provided in an accurate manner and double checked to avoid any clerical errors in the target text.
- Legal terminology was reviewed using parallel texts in comparable corporate legal documents.
- Abbreviations such as TTSG, which means Turkish Trade Registry Gazette, were provided in full text so that the target audience as the reader is not confused with such abbreviations due to lack of additional context.
